Who is the current Super League title holder?
The Wigan Warriors are the current holders of the Super League title. It is the seventh time that they have won the competition since its inception in 1996. Wigan also won the League Leaders Shield for the 2024 season.
7 Super League Star Players
The 2024 Super League season saw some standout performances from its star players. It was a strong season for tryscorers as well as those with a solid defence. So who are some of the Super League's best players? Let's look at both the attacking and defending stars from the 2024 season.
Liam Marshall
Leading the pack with 27 tries and 4 assists for Wigan Warriors, Liam Marshall is a true asset to his boyhood club. As the Warriors’ captain, Liam had a sensational year in 2024, leading his club to win every trophy possible.
Matty Ashton
Warrington Wolves star winger had an excellent season last year, scoring 21 tries and 4 assists. He’s arguably one of the fastest players in rugby league, making him a nightmare for a defending team.
Mikey Lewis
Lewis demonstrated an exceptional playmaking ability, during 2024. His skill steered Hull KR throughout one of their best seasons in years, providing a real threat to the dominant Super League teams. Mikey scored 19 tries during last season and managed an impressive 24 assists. He also won the prestigious Man of Steel award, and rightfully so!
Matt Dufty
The Australian native proved himself to be an invaluable asset to Warrington last year. The fullback recorded an astonishing 17 tries and 19 assists. He also made the most metres in the league. He ran a whopping 4234 metres, which was 500 more than any other player. Man of Steel nominee for 2024.
Cameron Smith
Smith plays for Leeds Rhinos as either a Loose Forward or in Second Row. He wowed fans with an outstanding 992 completed tackles last season. This was more than any other player in the league. The second most tackles made were 922 from Will Lovell, who represented the recently relegated London Broncos.
Josh Charnley & Bevan French
Currently playing for Leigh Leopards, Charnley continues his reliable form with 17 tries and 3 assists. French, another key figure for Wigan, cemented 16 tries and 14 assists. Both of these players have been consistent for so long and continue to be key figures for their teams.
Who is the favourite to win the Super League this year?
The latest outright betting odds highlight Wigan Warriors as the favourites at 6/4*. This may come as no surprise to anyone who has been following rugby league over the last couple of years.
St Helens are next in line, priced at 4/1*. They are another Super League powerhouse. However, 2024 saw them having an underwhelming season. Will 2025 be any different?
Following the Saints, we have Warrington Wolves priced at 7/2*. This may seem a short price to many. Warrington are notorious for ‘bottling’ the league, so we ask the age old question, ‘will it be Warringtons year?’.
Hull Kingston Rovers 5/1* are a much shorter price this year after enjoying a phenomenal season last year. Will they remain serious title contenders?
Leeds Rhinos at 14/1* are capable of an upset, but after a poor run of form over the last few seasons they will need something special to bring the magic back.
Catalans Dragons are listed at 20/1*, another team that underperformed in the previous season. It will be interesting to see if they can improve this year.
Leigh 33/1*, Salford Red Devils 66/1*, and Huddersfield Giants 66/1* are all seen as underdogs. Leigh being the most realistic out of the three, based on their performances over the last couple of seasons.
Hull FC at 80/1* face an uphill battle, with many more than likely writing them off. They controversially avoided relegation last year, they have a lot of building to do this year.
Neighbours Wakefield Trinity and Castleford Tigers round out the list at 150/1*, suggesting they don’t have much of a chance at all.
