All About Darts
Darts is a popular sport that mixes aim, some strategy, and some very strong emotions. Played in small bars or huge events, like the PDC World Darts Championship, darts attracts players and fans because of its social aspect. You can play in the pub whilst having a pint with your friends. Or you can also go to a big tournament, where the players put on a show and the crowd are ready for a party.
As a fan of darts, you want betting guides, good markets, and tournament previews. That's where SportsAndBetting.net comes in.
The Basics of Darts
The main goal in darts is to cut down a score from a set number often 501. You do this by hitting numbers on the board. The aim is to reach exactly 0 by hitting spots on the board with as few darts as you can.
The board has 20 numbered parts, each with a double and treble ring, and a bullseye at the core. Each section and ring has a different point count.
How to Play
Players take turns to throw three darts each. The score of each throw is taken from their total. The winner is the first person to reach 0 and they must finish on a double (the red ring). If they exceed 0 then they go bust and the game continues.
The Oche, pronounced ‘ockey’, is a line where a player must stand to throw their darts. It is set 7 feet 9.25 inches from the board.
Popular Darts Tournaments
PDC World Darts Championship
Is the biggest event on the darts calendar. It is held each year and only the most elite players take part. The last Darts player to win this was Luke Humphries in 2024.
Premier League Darts
A league format that tours cities across different countries. There are weekly fixtures that happen throughout the darts season. It is one of the biggest tournaments in the darts calendar. In 2024, we saw one of the most historic finals in darts history. 16 year old Luke Littler not only won the competition, but he also landed a 9 darter.
World Grand Prix
Another unique tournament... The World Grand Prix plays in a different format compared to the traditional game of darts. Each player must open the leg on a double, as well as finish the leg on a double.
This tournament is usually held in the same venue annually. However, it has been known to change location every few years.

Strategies for Darts Betting
Darts bets need more than luck; you need to plan and understand whats going on. Here are some tips for placing smarter bets:
Player Form
Keep up with player performances, such as their form and head-to-head records.
Read up on the Tournaments:
Each event can have varying formats (like sets vs. legs, double-in styles). Knowing how these plans work can help you understand which players are stronger. For example for the World Grand Prix you would want to back a player who is strong on doubles.
How do the Players Handle Pressure?
Some players thrive from a tense atmosphere, take Gerywn Price for example, he loves to be hated. So if there is an event in a location where there are more Price haters than lovers, it is wise to take that into account.
